MARBLEHEAD, Mass.- A fire at a barn on Pleasant Street in Marblehead was contained to the first floor Monday afternoon, according to the Marblehead Fire Department.
Fire and police dispatchers began receiving multiple 911 calls about the fire near 72 Pleasant Street at about 3:26 p.m. Chief Gilliland arrived first and reported fire showing from the first floor of a 40-by-40-foot, two-and-a-half-story barn with a walk-out basement.
Firefighters stretched a handline to the barn’s front entrance and, after opening the doors, quickly located and extinguished the fire. Crews then conducted extensive overhaul and checked the rest of the structure for signs of fire extension.
The cause remains under investigation by the Marblehead Fire Department, Marblehead Police Department and Massachusetts State Troopers assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Fire departments from Lynn and Salem provided mutual aid coverage during the incident.
