HAVERHILL, Mass.- A coyote bit a Haverhill resident on the arm after reportedly approaching a 2-year-old in the area of Forest Street, prompting police to warn residents to remain vigilant.
According to an update from Haverhill Police, the coyote was first spotted “eyeballing” the child before a neighbor intervened. Police said the coyote then bit the neighbor on the arm, and the neighbor fought off the attack with a shovel.
The coyote went down, and those at the scene initially believed it was deceased. Police said the animal later got up and ran away.
The coyote was subsequently struck by a motor vehicle, got up again and fled, and was then struck by another vehicle. Police said the animal again got up and took off.
The coyote was last seen heading into the area behind Solid Slice. The Haverhill Police drone unit searched the area but did not locate the animal.
Police said they believe the coyote is deceased, but its current status has not been confirmed.
