New Bedford woman charged with animal cruelty after video shows dog abuse

NEW BEDFORD, Mass.- A 32-year-old woman was arrested and charged with animal cruelty in New Bedford after surveillance footage showed her repeatedly striking and physically assaulting a small dog, police said.

According to a police statement, on Thursday, October 8, officers assisted New Bedford Animal Control with an investigation at an apartment on Barker’s Lane. Surveillance footage reviewed during the investigation showed the alleged abuse.

The eight-month-old dog, named Ace, was found at a separate residence with visible bruising on his head and body, including a swollen eye socket.

Animal Control officers took Ace to an animal hospital Thursday evening for examination and treatment. The woman surrendered the dog to Animal Control, and he was transferred to Forever Paws Animal Shelter after his hospital visit.
