SANDWICH, Mass.- A vintage Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor has joined the Sandwich Police Department’s fleet as a ceremonial and community outreach vehicle.

The department announced June 16 that the retro cruiser will not respond to calls for service. Instead, it will represent the department at parades, community events, car shows, and other special occasions throughout the community.

Designed to replicate the department’s patrol vehicles from the 1980s and much of the 1990s, the Crown Victoria features a classic paint scheme and decals intended to honor officers who served during that era and preserve a piece of local law enforcement history.

According to the department, the project was completed with support from several community partners. Upper Cape Tech donated the paint and body work, Colonial Municipal Group provided the graphics, and the Barnstable Police Department supplied a vintage light bar.
