W. BRIDGEWATER, Mass.- A fire truck operating at the scene of a crash involving a Massachusetts State Police cruiser on Route 24 in West Bridgewater was struck from behind by a passing motor vehicle during the early morning hours of June 2, 2026.

The West Bridgewater Fire Department said Engine Co. 2 was on the highway assisting at the crash scene, which involved a State Police cruiser, and had emergency warning lights activated while firefighters worked to secure the area.

Approximately 20 minutes after the fire truck was positioned on Route 24, a motor vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed struck Engine Co. 2 from behind without warning, according to the department.

No firefighters were injured in the collision. The fire truck sustained significant damage and required towing from the scene.

Officials said the unit was actively protecting responders and motorists during the ongoing crash response when the secondary collision occurred.

The fire department emphasized the risks faced by emergency personnel working along active roadways and reiterated the importance of Massachusetts’ Move Over law, which requires drivers to slow down and change lanes when approaching emergency scenes when safe to do so.

While no injuries were reported, officials noted the outcome could have been far more serious given the conditions on the highway.
