Rochester golfer recovering after cardiac arrest, family says

ROCHESTER, Mass.- A golfer who suffered cardiac arrest at the Rochester Golf Club in Rochester on May 10 is now awake and communicating with family members, according to a statement shared by the Rochester Fire Department.

The family said the golfer collapsed on the third hole before friends immediately began CPR while transporting him by golf cart toward the parking lot to meet first responders. A bystander described as a medical professional also assisted with CPR until emergency crews arrived.

The Rochester Fire Department previously said crews used advanced cardiac life support measures, including defibrillation and a Lucas CPR device, before transporting the patient to Tobey Hospital in Wareham. The golfer was later airlifted to a Boston hospital by Boston MedFlight.

The family said the golfer is now “sitting up and talking” and showing “no neurological deficits,” while thanking first responders and bystanders involved in the rescue.
