WHITMAN, Mass.- A 57-year-old Whitman man was arrested on gun and drug charges after police executed search warrants connected to a domestic assault investigation, authorities said.

Detectives detained Stephen Francis Quinn outside a home on Nursery Street shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, while serving an arrest warrant and executing a search warrant for a firearm he was believed to possess, according to the Whitman Police Department.

During a search of Quinn, detectives allegedly found a hide-a-key container in his pocket containing eight individually wrapped plastic baggies of cocaine.

Police then searched the residence at 31 Nursery St., where detectives allegedly seized a loaded Taurus .40-caliber semiautomatic handgun from beneath a bedroom mattress. Authorities said the firearm contained 10 rounds of ammunition.

Following the discovery of suspected narcotics, detectives obtained an additional search warrant for the property. The second search was carried out with assistance from Deputy Joe Solari and K-9 Kilo of the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department.

During that search, investigators allegedly seized another plastic bag containing a white powder believed to be cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and more than $3,500 in cash from the home.

Quinn was charged with possession with intent to distribute a Class B drug, possession of a firearm without a firearms identification card, and possession of ammunition without a firearms identification card.

He was arraigned Wednesday in Brockton District Court, where bail was set at $500.

The investigation began after Whitman police investigated a reported domestic assault and subsequent restraining order matter, authorities said.
