Baby girl arrives on I-95 in Attleboro before parents reach hospital

ATTLEBORO, Mass.- A trip to the hospital took an unexpected turn Tuesday evening when a baby girl was born on the side of Interstate 95 in Attleboro.

The parents were traveling north on I-95 when their daughter arrived before they reached the hospital. The father delivered the baby on the side of the highway.

Emergency crews were called to the scene at approximately 5:10 p.m. on August 11 following a report of a childbirth. Attleboro Fire Department paramedics evaluated both the mother and newborn and determined that they were in healthy condition.

The mother and baby were transported to Sturdy Hospital for further evaluation.

Firefighter Paramedic Haley Coleman said the incident was a welcome change from the difficult circumstances firefighters and paramedics often encounter.

“It was refreshing to be part of such a happy and important moment for this family,” Coleman said. “We’re grateful that both mom and baby were healthy and doing well.”
