Plymouth fire damages four-unit home, displaces nine residents

PLYMOUTH, Mass.- Nine residents were displaced and one firefighter sustained a minor injury after a fire damaged a four-unit home on Court Street Tuesday morning.

The Plymouth Fire Department responded to 411 Court St. at approximately 5:10 a.m. on May 12 after occupants were alerted by a functioning smoke alarm system and called 911.

Fire crews arrived to find smoke and flames coming from a first-floor bedroom, with the fire extending into the apartment above. All nine residents evacuated safely. No civilian injuries were reported. The American Red Cross is assisting those displaced.

One firefighter sustained a minor injury while battling the blaze. He was treated and released.

Utility crews shut off power to the building. Firefighters brought the fire under control by about 6 a.m. and completed overhaul operations by approximately 8 a.m.

The first- and second-floor units sustained significant damage, while other units were affected by smoke and water damage.

A preliminary investigation indicates the fire originated in a first-floor bedroom and appears to be accidental. State Fire Marshal investigators responded, and the fire remains under investigation.

Fire departments from Carver and Kingston provided station coverage during the incident.

Chief Neil Foley said all occupants escaped safely and emphasized the role of working smoke detectors in alerting residents during the early morning fire.
