ROCHESTER, Mass.- A 10-year-old horse was rescued after becoming trapped in mud in a wooded area of Rochester, where emergency crews worked to help free the animal from a swampy embankment.
The horse, identified as “Hobo,” became stuck up to his belly after falling into the embankment along fire lanes in the woods, according to the Plymouth County Technical Rescue Team. The horse was unable to escape despite efforts by its owners.
The Plymouth County Technical Rescue Team assisted the Rochester Fire Department during the rescue operation on July 11. Rescue personnel cleared wooded debris and created a rope system to help pull the horse back toward the roadway.
Hobo was able to self-extricate with minor assistance from rescuers, according to officials. A local family veterinarian responded to the scene to evaluate the horse and determined that he was not injured.
The rescue involved coordination between the technical rescue team, Rochester firefighters, the horse’s owners, and veterinary personnel.
