MILFORD, Mass.- A 35-year-old Connecticut man was arrested after two vehicles were broken into and personal belongings were stolen in Milford on August 28, according to police.
The Milford Public Safety Communications Center received a call at about 8:37 p.m. from Planet Fitness at 146 South Main Street reporting that a vehicle had been broken into. Police said a window had been smashed and a purse containing personal belongings was stolen.
While officers investigated, a second person reported that a window of their vehicle had also been smashed and personal belongings had been taken.
Detectives reviewed surveillance footage and identified a white Volkswagen Tiguan as the vehicle involved. Police said officers then located the vehicle on Main Street using police technology.
A man was seen getting out of the vehicle carrying what appeared to be a satchel or purse. He walked down Central Street and returned several minutes later without the bag, according to police.
At about 10:40 p.m., officers found the vehicle behind the 7-Eleven at 127 Main Street. The driver was identified as Jonathan Jamal Walker, 35, of Hartford, Connecticut. Police said a check of law enforcement records showed that Walker had an active arrest warrant.
About 20 minutes later, police K-9 Ozzy searched the area where Walker had previously been seen carrying the suspected stolen property. Police said several stolen items were found inside a dumpster on Central Street.
Walker was arrested and faces charges related to breaking into two vehicles, damaging the vehicles, stealing property, having an item police say was used to break into vehicles, attempting to conceal the vehicle’s license plate, and an outstanding warrant.
