LAWRENCE, Mass.- Three people were injured in an afternoon shooting near Lawrence High School on Monday, August 31, according to police.
The shooting occurred at approximately 3:01 p.m. in the area of Exeter Street and E. Daulton Street, on Lawrence Housing Authority property and in close proximity to the high school, police said. The incident coincided with school dismissal.
A School Resource Officer reported hearing gunshots, while multiple 911 calls also reported shots fired in the area.
Responding officers found three male victims at the scene. All three received medical treatment before being transported to a local hospital. The victims are young males and were reported to be in various conditions, according to police.
The shooting did not occur on school property.
Investigators do not believe the incident was a random act of violence, police said. Authorities are actively searching for one suspect in connection with the shooting.
Lawrence police investigators were working at the scene with members of the FBI, Massachusetts State Police, Massachusetts Environmental Police and the Essex County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. Police said the information is preliminary and subject to change as additional details become available.
