COHASSET, Mass.- A man in his early 70s was found dead Monday on a remote trail in Whitney Woods in Cohasset after a 9-1-1 caller reported an unresponsive person, according to police.
The call was received at approximately 10:31 a.m. on Aug. 17. First-arriving officers hiked approximately 1.5 miles into the park over rugged terrain, where they found the man with injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Cohasset police and fire personnel responded to the area. Police used the department’s two off-road UTVs to reach the remote location and transport personnel and equipment.
Officers later assisted personnel from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in removing the deceased from the wooded area.
A section of Whitney Woods was closed for approximately 3½ hours while investigators worked at the scene.
Police said there is nothing suspicious surrounding the death and that there is no danger to the public.
The circumstances remain under active investigation by Cohasset police detectives and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office.
