LITTLETON, Mass.- Four of Littleton’s six Flock Safety cameras have been removed, while the remaining two are scheduled to be removed in September, according to the Littleton Police Department.
The department said Flock Safety provided an update on August 13 showing that cameras at four locations had already been removed. The remaining cameras are scheduled for removal September 9 and September 10.
The cameras scheduled for removal are located at Ayer Road and New Estate Road and at Newtown Road and Crestview Road.
The other four cameras, at Great Road and Beaver Brook Road, Great Road and Nashoba Road, King Street and Farmstead Way, and Constitution Avenue at The Point entrance, have been removed.
The police department also confirmed that all Flock Safety camera data collection in Littleton ended August 1.
Some mounting hardware and other equipment that does not capture video may remain temporarily while the town decides what to do with it, the department said.
The update follows the town’s decision to end its contract with Flock Safety after officials discovered that five cameras had been turned back on without notifying the town. The town previously said the cameras were powered down and that officials had begun the process of removing all six cameras.
Police Chief Douglas Landry has also completed a training session with Flock Safety. The police department said the training confirmed that images captured by the cameras are normally kept for 30 days before being permanently deleted.
The department said it will continue to update the Select Board and the community as the removal process continues.
