FRAMINGHAM, Mass.- Two men have been arrested in connection with a July 4 shooting investigation in Framingham after authorities executed multiple search warrants that led to the seizure of an illegally possessed AK-style rifle, six large-capacity magazines and numerous rounds of ammunition.
The arrests were announced Thursday by the Framingham Police Department following an investigation by its Bureau of Investigations into reports of shots fired in the Beaver Park Road area on July 4.
According to police, investigators executed the search warrants on Tuesday, July 28, with assistance from the Metro West Drug Task Force, the Worcester Police Department Crime Gun Intelligence Unit, the Worcester Police Department SWAT Team, the Marlborough Police Department Detective Bureau and the Massachusetts State Police STOP Team.
Police said the searches resulted in the seizure of an illegally possessed AK-style rifle, six large-capacity magazines and numerous rounds of ammunition.
Authorities arrested Juan Leiva, 19, of Worcester, charging him with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building.
Police also arrested Christian Cruz, 33, of Marlborough, who faces charges of carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card or license, possession of a large-capacity firearm and possession of a large-capacity feeding device.
The charges stem from the ongoing investigation into the reported gunfire on Beaver Park Road. Police did not release additional details about the circumstances of the July 4 incident or say whether anyone was injured.
The investigation remains ongoing.
