STOW, Mass.- A Stow police officer is facing a criminal complaint after an internal investigation found he allegedly accessed a resident’s personal records through law enforcement databases without a legitimate policing purpose.
The Stow Police Department announced Friday, July 17, that it filed the complaint against Officer Jason Rogers. The investigation began after a Worcester County resident reported on June 18 that Rogers had improperly used department and state systems to access the person’s personal information. The department said the two knew each other.
Rogers was placed on paid administrative leave immediately after the complaint was received while the department conducted a four-week internal affairs investigation, in accordance with department policy and collective bargaining agreements.
According to the investigation, Rogers searched for information related to the complainant multiple times during 2024 and 2025. Investigators found that he accessed the Massachusetts Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) on five occasions. The department said the system may only be used for official law enforcement purposes.
The department filed the criminal complaint on Friday, July 17. A clerk-magistrate will determine at a future hearing whether there is enough evidence for criminal charges to proceed.
Investigators also concluded that Rogers violated multiple department policies and engaged in conduct unbecoming of a police officer. The department has notified the Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission (POST), as required by law, and shared the investigation’s findings with the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and the Department of Criminal Justice Information Services.
Rogers will also face an employee status hearing before the Stow Select Board. A date for that hearing has not yet been announced.
The Town of Stow and the Stow Police Department said they will have no further comment because the matter involves an ongoing investigation and personnel issues.
