BOSTON, Mass.- A 59-year-old Attleboro woman has been charged in connection with the 1985 killing of a newborn found dead in the woods in Mansfield, in a cold case that remained unsolved for more than four decades.
The suspect, Dianne Curry Peck, is accused of murdering her infant son, known for years as “Baby Boy Doe,” whose remains were discovered in Mansfield in 1985.
The breakthrough came through investigative genetic genealogy, which allowed FBI Boston’s Cold Case Team to develop a DNA profile from the infant’s remains. That profile led investigators to identify Peck as the child’s biological mother, a finding later confirmed through additional DNA testing and traditional investigative work.
The investigation was conducted jointly by FBI Boston, the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, and local police in Mansfield.
Investigators also identified the child’s father, who is now deceased.
At a news conference on June 30, 2026, FBI Boston Special Agent in Charge Ted Docks said investigators used genetic genealogy alongside historical records and family tree reconstruction to narrow and confirm leads.
Authorities said the case had remained unsolved for 41 years before the genetic breakthrough reopened the investigation and led to charges.
