SHREWSBURY, Mass.- Shrewsbury residents will pay more for Pay-As-You-Throw (PAYT) trash bags beginning July 13, 2026, following a pricing adjustment approved by the town’s Select Board.
According to the town’s announcement, the increase is intended to help the Solid Waste Enterprise Fund keep pace with rising waste disposal and recycling costs while maintaining trash and recycling services. Town officials said they worked to keep the increase as modest as possible, recognizing that higher fees affect household budgets.
Beginning July 13, small PAYT bags will cost $1.44 each, or $7.20 per roll of five, an increase of 19 cents per bag. Large bags will cost $2.92 each, or $14.60 per roll of five, an increase of 38 cents per bag.
Residents who qualify for Personal Exemptions through the Assessor’s Department will continue to be eligible to purchase bags at the previous year’s rates. Exempt bags are available at the Department of Public Works, 100 Maple Ave., second floor, and are sold for $1.25 each ($6.25 per roll of five) for small bags and $2.54 each ($12.70 per roll of five) for large bags. Purchases are limited to cash or check.
