GRAFTON, Mass.- A Massachusetts State Police trooper was killed Sunday evening in an off-duty motorcycle crash involving a passenger vehicle on Route 122 in Grafton, according to state and local authorities.
Trooper Jacob Mick, 31, a Northborough native assigned to the Holden Barracks, died after the collision on Providence Road at approximately 6 p.m. Sunday, June 28. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.
Preliminary investigators said Mick was operating a motorcycle when it collided with a passenger vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Massachusetts State Police said Mick graduated from the State Police Academy in 2023 as a member of the 88th Recruit Training Troop and was assigned to the Holden Barracks.
State Police Superintendent Geoffrey Noble said Mick is survived by his wife and infant daughter, and remembered him as “a proud Trooper and public servant who never hesitated to answer the call.”
Before joining the Massachusetts State Police, Mick served as a police officer with the Northborough Police Department. The department said he was raised in Northborough, graduated from Algonquin Regional High School, where he played hockey, and made a lasting impact on the department and the community. His mother, Katie Mick, has served the town for many years as a public safety dispatcher.
The crash remains under investigation by the Grafton Police Department, the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council, Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The Mick family has requested privacy as they grieve.
