NORTHBOROUGH, Mass.- A young child was rescued from a locked vehicle in the parking lot of a Walmart in Northborough on Thursday afternoon after being left alone inside during temperatures that were believed to be about 90 degrees, according to police.
Police and fire personnel responded to the Walmart on Otis Street at approximately 4:06 p.m. on June 11 following reports of a small child inside a locked, parked vehicle. Responders located the vehicle and safely removed the child.
The child was evaluated by emergency medical personnel and transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
An investigation by the Northborough Police Department determined that the vehicle’s owner, Luis Fernando Lopez Veloez, 40, of Worcester, had left the child in the vehicle while shopping, authorities said.
Lopez Veloez was arrested without incident and charged with reckless endangerment of a child.
Police said the outside temperature at the time of the incident was believed to be about 90 degrees.
Lopez Veloez was scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Westborough District Court.
