WAYLAND, Mass.- A vehicle was found submerged in Lake Cochituate on Saturday afternoon, prompting a multi-agency response in Wayland.

A fisherman reported the submerged vehicle at approximately 4:32 p.m. on June 6. Wayland Police and mutual aid partners responded to the scene, and the Massachusetts State Police Dive Team was called in to assess the vehicle.

After entering the water, dive team members determined the vehicle was an unoccupied Nissan Frontier with Maryland plates.

Acting Chief Mark Hebert said there is no apparent connection between the vehicle and Massachusetts at this time.

Because the vehicle was located on state property, the investigation has been turned over to the Massachusetts State Police.

Lake Cochituate is part of Cochituate State Park, which spans portions of Wayland and Natick.

Authorities said it is not yet known how long the vehicle had been submerged or whether it was occupied when it entered the water.
