SHREWSBURY, Mass.- State Rep. Hannah Kane announced on May 27 that Shrewsbury resident Art Dobson had been honored as part of Massachusetts’ second annual Military Appreciation Day, recognizing his military service and longstanding contributions to the community.
Because Dobson was unable to attend the ceremony at the Massachusetts State House in Boston, Kane visited him on Memorial Day to present a House citation, a Governor’s citation, and memorabilia from the event.
Dobson joined the U.S. Marine Corps after graduating from high school and served for three years before being discharged in 1954. Following his military service, he moved to Shrewsbury, where he worked at Iandoli’s Supermarkets before becoming a manufacturer’s representative helping food producers place products in local stores.
In addition to his professional career, Dobson has been active in community service for decades. He has been a member of Shrewsbury’s Rotary Club for more than 40 years and helped establish a Rotary Club in Kyiv, Ukraine, in 1992.
Kane said Dobson’s military service and volunteer efforts have made a lasting impact on the community.
“I’m proud to recognize Art Dobson for his military service and his many contributions to Shrewsbury,” Kane said. “His volunteer activities have had a positive impact in the community and reflect the strength, resilience, and dedication of our local military community. I’m honored to celebrate his service.”
The recognition was part of the second annual Military Appreciation Day, hosted by the Executive Office of Veterans Services in partnership with the Massachusetts Legislature. The event honors veterans, active-duty service members, and military families from across Massachusetts.
