Ducklings trapped inside a storm drain in Ayer were safely rescued Sunday morning after a coordinated effort involving local emergency responders.
The incident occurred just before 10 a.m. at Washington Street and Coolidge Street, where 17 ducklings became stuck inside a drainage system.
The Ayer Fire Department, Ayer Police Department, and an animal control officer responded to the scene. Retired Fire Captain Sean Farley also assisted after reporting the situation.
Responders worked for about one hour to access and remove the ducklings from the storm drain. All 17 were safely retrieved.
The ducklings were then transported to a nearby wetlands area, where they were reunited with their mother.
