WORCESTER, Mass.- Police arrested two men and a juvenile following a foot pursuit on Houghton Street Tuesday evening that resulted in the recovery of multiple firearms and an officer injury, according to the Worcester Police Department.
At approximately 7:00 p.m. on April 28, officers observed two males walking on Houghton Street, one of whom appeared to be clutching his waistband while repeatedly looking back at a marked cruiser. Police said the two later met a third male behind a shed before all three fled on foot.
Officers apprehended 18-year-old Javiel Delgado of Worcester after a chase, during which he allegedly threw a backpack over a fence into a yard where a woman and child were present. Police said the backpack contained a firearm equipped with a machine gun conversion device and a large capacity magazine.
Assisting officers arrested 19-year-old Salorin Batista of Fitchburg. Police said they recovered the backpack he was seen handling, which contained two firearms, including one also equipped with a machine gun conversion device.
The Worcester Police Crime Scene Unit responded and processed the evidence.
Delgado faces charges including possession of a machine gun, possession of a large capacity firearm, possession of a large capacity firearm with a feeding device, and carrying a firearm without a license.
Batista faces charges including carrying a firearm without a license (two counts), possession of a large capacity firearm (two counts), carrying a loaded firearm without a license (two counts), and possession of a machine gun.
A third individual, a juvenile, was also arrested for allegedly pushing an officer while attempting to flee.
One officer was transported to a hospital with a shoulder injury, treated, and released.
