FRAMINGHAM, Mass.- A 1994-time capsule will be opened during a public event in Framingham, marking three decades since it was originally sealed.
According to city officials, the capsule was buried in 1994 as part of an initiative focused on community values, inclusion, and addressing discrimination. It was originally scheduled to be opened in 2025 but has been rescheduled to 2026.
“The opening of this time capsule is a meaningful opportunity to reflect on where we’ve been as a community and how far we’ve come,” said Mayor Charlie Sisitsky.
The program will include remarks from local officials, the unveiling of selected items from the capsule, and reflections on changes in the community since the mid-1990s. Organizers said the contents provide a snapshot of the priorities and perspectives of residents at the time it was created.
The event is free and open to the public, beginning at 7 p.m. outside the Memorial Building Plaza and continuing at 7:15 p.m. inside Historic Nevins Hall on April 29.
