Great Barrington, Mass.- A Great Barrington man has been arrested and indicted for allegedly threatening President Donald J. Trump on social media. Andrew D. Emerald, 45, faces eight counts of interstate transmission of threatening communications, according to federal authorities. He was taken into custody Monday morning and is scheduled to appear in federal court in Springfield, Massachusetts, at 2:30 p.m.
The indictment alleges that between May and July 2025, Emerald posted eight separate messages on Facebook threatening to harm Trump. The posts included explicit threats of violence and referenced specific locations and actions.
If convicted, Emerald could face up to five years in federal prison, three years of supervised release, and fines up to $250,000. Sentencing would be determined by a federal judge in accordance with the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts, the FBI’s Boston Division, and other federal and local agencies, including the United States Secret Service, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and the Great Barrington Police Department, assisted in the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven H. Breslow of the Springfield Branch Office will prosecute the case.
Authorities emphasized that the charges are allegations. Emerald is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
