Internet outage affects about 1,500 SELCO customers

About 1,500 customers of Shrewsbury Electric and Cable Operations (SELCO) experienced an internet outage Tuesday, March 10, following overnight network maintenance, the utility said.

SELCO said the maintenance, required by a vendor, included a firmware upgrade that installed successfully. However, some network settings did not carry over, causing service disruptions for roughly 1,500 fiber subscribers.

Service began returning around noon, and the remaining customers were restored by about 3 p.m., according to SELCO.

The utility apologized for the disruption.

SELCO also postponed previously scheduled maintenance planned for March 12 between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. Officials said the work is unrelated to the outage and involves routine updates to network devices. A new date will be announced, and affected customers will be notified in advance.
