An Uxbridge, Mass., police officer was killed early Wednesday morning while assisting a driver on Route 146, according to authorities.
The fatal crash occurred on the northbound side of the highway at approximately 12:40 a.m. on January 7, 2026, the Uxbridge Police Department reported. Police said the officer was on duty and helping a driver when the crash happened.
Uxbridge Police Chief Marc Montminy confirmed the circumstances of the incident and said the officer’s name has not yet been released, pending notification of family members.
The death prompted an outpouring of condolences from state and local officials. State Representative Joe McKenna issued a statement Wednesday morning expressing his sorrow over the loss.
“I am deeply saddened to wake up to the news of an Uxbridge police officer accidentally killed in the line of duty while helping a broken down vehicle on R.146 overnight,” McKenna said. “I am praying for this officer, their family, the Uxbridge Police Department, and the community — for peace and healing.”
Authorities have not released further details about the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
