A Worcester County Grand Jury has indicted 26-year-old Snehal Srivastava of Shrewsbury on multiple charges, including murder, in connection with the shooting death of 56-year-old Kevin Doherty, also of Shrewsbury. The charges, announced by Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr., include one count of murder, one count of witness intimidation, one count of unlawful possession of a firearm outside of home or work, and one count of vandalism.
Srivastava was formally arraigned on December 3, 2025 in Worcester County Superior Court and is being held without bail. The next hearing is scheduled for January 8, 2026.
According to court documents and police reports, the incident occurred on the evening of August 28, 2025. Officers from the Shrewsbury Police Department responded to a 911 call from Doherty, who reported having an altercation near Jordan Pond. During the call, dispatchers overheard gunfire and, moments later, Doherty went silent. First responders transported him to UMass Memorial Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Within hours of the shooting, law enforcement arrested Srivastava at a nearby residence. The apprehension involved support from the Massachusetts State Police Special Tactical Operations Team, the State Police Air Wing, and detectives from the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office. Initially, Srivastava was arraigned on August 29 in Westborough District Court on charges of armed assault with intent to murder and carrying a firearm without a license. A second arraignment followed after the grand jury handed up the murder indictment. He has remained in custody since his arrest.
Prosecutors say their evidence includes forensic analysis and witness testimony, and a pre-trial motion hearing is expected in advance of the January 8 court date.
