On September 16, 2025, a man from Brockton was arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing incident that occurred in Fitchburg. According to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early, Jr., the Fitchburg Police responded to a report of a disturbance involving a knife on Chester Street at approximately 5:27 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found a male victim suffering from apparent stab wounds. The victim was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased shortly thereafter.
The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Charles Ednerson, has been charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, as well as armed assault with intent to murder. Ednerson was apprehended in Brockton without incident by a collaborative effort involving the Fitchburg Police Department, Brockton Police Department, Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, and the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section (VFAS).
Ednerson is scheduled to be arraigned in Fitchburg District Court on September 17, 2025. The identity of the deceased has not been released, pending notification of family members. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, being conducted by the Fitchburg Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.
