A man was rescued from the freezing waters of Lake Quinsigamond in Shrewsbury on March 20, 2025, following a coordinated rescue operation. Authorities received a report of a missing person near the former Buca di Beppo Restaurant, prompting an immediate search.
According to the Shrewsbury police, officers soon spotted the man struggling in the water under the Kenneth F. Burns Memorial Bridge, yelling for help. Rescuers on the bridge threw flotation devices and offered instructions, while Shrewsbury Fire personnel and Worcester EMS also arrived on the scene.
A rope and rescue device helped bring the man closer to shore, where a rescue diver entered the water to pull him to safety. The victim was promptly given medical aid and transported to a local hospital.
The rescue involved the use of specialized equipment, including a “Manny Tube,” a flotation device donated to the Shrewsbury police by the Manny 267 Foundation in honor of fallen Worcester Police Officer Manny Familia. The circumstances of the incident remain under investigation.
