Shrewsbury, Westborough, and Grafton are among the fire departments in the Second Worcester District to receive significant funding through the FY25 Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant program. Shrewsbury is set to receive $24,720, Westborough will receive $15,334, and Grafton has been awarded $18,972 to purchase essential safety equipment for their first responders.
The grants will support the purchase of protective gear, portable radios, thermal imaging cameras, and hazardous gas detectors, which will help the departments meet safety standards set by the Occupational Safety & Health Administration and the National Fire Protection Association.
In total, over $140,000 in grants have been distributed to fire departments throughout the district. Other awardees include Auburn, Millbury, and Worcester.
The FY25 Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant program, funded by the Massachusetts Legislature, was announced by the Healey-Driscoll Administration last week. Senator Michael Moore praised the program’s impact, stating, “I’m thrilled that every single city and town in my district will receive funding through the Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant program. Investments in our first responders are always worthwhile, resulting in communities that are safer and more secure for everyone.”
