A juvenile male was arrested on January 1, 2025, after fleeing a traffic stop and being found in possession of a firearm, according to the Shrewsbury Police Department.
At approximately 5:59 PM, a Shrewsbury officer initiated a traffic stop on a 2000 Toyota Corolla near the intersection of Harrington Avenue and Muzzy Avenue. The vehicle, which had a driver and three passengers, had been observed committing a traffic violation. As the car came to a stop, one of the rear-seat passengers exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The officer reportedly saw the individual holding a black object that he suspected was a firearm.
A second passenger also attempted to flee, but the officer was able to detain him and the remaining passengers at gunpoint while awaiting backup. Several officers responded to the scene, including a drone unit, and K-9 units from neighboring towns, including Auburn, Charlton, Milford, Uxbridge, and Southbridge, were called in to assist in the search for the fleeing suspect.
Within a short time, the police located the suspect hiding behind a vehicle in the Quinn Apartments parking lot. The individual was arrested without incident and was no longer carrying the black object. He had also removed the sweatshirt he was seen wearing while fleeing.
In the following moments, another officer found a firearm in the bushes on the property. The weapon, a black Sig Sauer P2022 .40 caliber handgun, was loaded with seven hollow-point rounds. The Auburn Police K-9 team later located the suspect’s sweatshirt under a vehicle nearby.
The juvenile, identified as a 17-year-old male, was charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license and possession of a large-capacity firearm/magazine without a license. The three remaining passengers were identified, issued civil citations, and released.
