Edgemere Park in Shrewsbury receives $58,000 ADA improvement grant

Edgemere Park in Shrewsbury has been awarded $58,000 through the FY25 Municipal ADA Improvement Grant program. This grant, announced by the Massachusetts Office of Disability, is part of a nearly $5 million allocation to 59 municipalities across the state to improve accessibility.

Located in the Edgemere neighborhood, the park will undergo several upgrades, including an improved parking lot, a new walking path, and accessible benches near the basketball court and baseball field.

“I am thrilled that Shrewsbury was awarded $58,000 through the Municipal ADA Improvement Grant program. These funds will allow Shrewsbury to improve accessibility at Edgemere Park, so that people with disabilities can enjoy spending time outside and participating in activities at the park,” said Representative Hannah Kane.

“Public spaces where people can gather with friends and enjoy the outdoors should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their level
of mobility. I’d like to thank the Governor and the Office on Disability for making these dollars available to help the Commonwealth become a more accessible place,” said State Senator Michael Moore.

The Municipal ADA Improvement Grant program aims to support cities and towns in planning and implementing accessibility projects. According to the Massachusetts Office on Disability, the FY25 cycle saw unprecedented demand, with 140 applications requesting over $15 million in funding.
