Shrewsbury Fire Department crews responded to an accident on South Street Thursday morning as heavy snow blanketed the area. The department reported the incident at 9:28 a.m., cautioning residents to “please drive carefully.”
A photo shared by the department shows first responders on the scene with a downed electricity pole amidst snowy conditions. Roads in the area were covered with accumulating snow, creating potentially hazardous driving conditions.
Shortly after, Shrewsbury Electric & Cable Operations (SELCO) issued an outage alert, citing the accident as the cause of power disruptions across town.
This marks the season’s first snowfall, which began around 4:45 a.m. and is expected to taper off by 10 a.m., with total accumulations of up to three inches, according to the National Weather Service.
