Power restored in Shrewsbury after apparent bird incident causes outage

Shrewsbury Electric & Cable Operations (SELCO) announced a widespread power outage on September 3, 2024. The outage, detailed in a statement at 2:45 PM, was caused by a bird coming into contact with a main feed wire on Gage Lane. According to SELCO, only feathers were found as evidence of the incident.

According to the municipally-owned company, crews resolved the issue by splicing in 25 feet of new wire and installing animal-proof gel wraps around the new splices to prevent future incidents. The repairs took about an hour to complete.
