A serious collision between a Shrewsbury Police cruiser and a gray 2020 Subaru Outback resulted in multiple injuries on August 31, 2024. The crash took place at the intersection of Oak Street and Route 9 in Shrewsbury.
According to a statement from the police, a cruiser carrying two officers was responding to an emergency with its lights and sirens activated when it collided with the Subaru, which was traveling westbound on Route 9. The impact caused the cruiser to roll over, eventually resting on its roof.
Both officers were able to exit the overturned vehicle and were transported to UMass Hospital, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The Subaru, which had three occupants, also sustained significant damage in the collision. Two of the occupants were transported to UMass Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the third occupant was evaluated at the scene and did not require hospitalization.
The crash, which occurred around 12:55 PM, prompted a response from the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (CEMLEC) crash reconstruction team and officers from surrounding communities. The incident is currently being investigated by the CEMLEC team.
