A Public Health Advisory has been issued for Jordan Pond and Gauch Park Pond in Shrewsbury due to high levels of E. coli detected during routine seasonal water quality monitoring.

Gauch Park Pond, located at the corner of North Quinsigamond Avenue and Main Street on Lake Quinsigamond, and Jordan Pond, situated behind Coolidge School on Florence Street, are the affected areas. Until further laboratory tests confirm that the water quality has returned to safe levels, individuals and their pets are advised to avoid contact with the water, including fishing.

Escherichia coli is a type of bacteria that normally lives in the intestines of healthy people and animals. Most types of E. coli are harmless or cause relatively brief diarrhea. However, a few strains, such as E. coli O157:H7, can cause severe stomach cramps, bloody diarrhea, and vomiting.

The recorded date was July 26, 2024.
