On June 14, 2024, Shrewsbury resident Melanie Petrucci will be honored as a Commonwealth Heroine by the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women. State Representative Hannah Kane nominated Petrucci for her significant community involvement.

Petrucci has been active in the Shrewsbury community, serving on the boards of Shrewsbury Youth and Family Services and the Shrewsbury Education Foundation. She has also volunteered for events raising funds for Shrewsbury Public Schools and supported the Shrewsbury High School Robotics Team. Currently, she is involved with the Shrewsbury Town Center Association, Friends of the Shrewsbury Public Library, and the Shrewsbury Rotary Club. She also participates in town government as a Town Meeting Member and a member of the Shrewsbury Historic District Commission.

“I’m honored to nominate Melanie Petrucci as a 2024 Commonwealth Heroine,” said Representative Hannah Kane in a press release. “Her willingness to help in anyway she can has made our community stronger, and I am grateful for her incredible passion for Shrewsbury,” Kane continued.

“To say that I am humbled is an understatement. I am honored to be among other like-minded women who care deeply for their communities and are making a difference. To me that’s really what it’s all about…making a difference to maintain the present and shape the future of Shrewsbury for future generations,” said Melanie Petrucci.

The Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women, established in 1998, aims to promote the rights and opportunities of women in the Commonwealth.
