Announcements regarding waste management initiatives during the Christmas season have been released for the Pay-As-You-Throw (PAYT) households in Shrewsbury.
Between December 26 and December 30, 2023, PAYT customers are permitted to place a single plastic non-PAYT trash bag, not exceeding 35 gallons, at the curb on their designated collection day. Notably, there will be a one-day delay in collection services around both the Christmas and New Year holidays, a traditional adjustment approved by the Select Board for over 17 years.
Additionally, as part of the waste management strategy, the 2024 Christmas Tree Curbside Collection Schedule has been outlined. PAY-As-You-Throw households can dispose of their holiday trees during two specific periods:
- January 2, 2024, through January 6, 2024
- January 15, 2024, through January 19, 2024
Residents are reminded to place only one real Christmas tree per household at the curb during these allocated weeks. Furthermore, ensure the tree is free of snow, and decorations, and not frozen to the ground. For convenient collection, trees should be visible to the crew and positioned at the curb by 7 am.
It is recommended that residents mark these dates on their calendars and find more information on the town government’s Trash and Recycling Collection webpage.
