Shrewsbury High School recently received recognition from the National Speech & Debate Association for its achievements in the 2022-2023 school year.
“Our Top 100 schools show an incredible commitment to growing speech and debate,” stated J. Scott Wunn, Executive Director of the National Speech & Debate Association in a press release. “These programs demonstrate outstanding commitment to the values of integrity, humility, respect, leadership, and service that are central to our Code of Honor,” affirmed Wunn.
The Association awarded the Speaking and Service Award to students who excelled in service points within the student Honor Society. Among over 140,000 members, only around 140 students received this prestigious recognition. Notably, two Shrewsbury High School students, Trishna Nikte and Pranathi Gadhanki, received this award.
Shrewsbury High School also got the 2022-2023 Club Award for their dedication, reaching the “400 Club” level by accumulating more than 400 “strength points.”
Strength points come from student and coach achievements in competitions and service. When a student earns a degree, they get one strength point. A school’s strength is the total of each student’s points plus the points of up to three coaches, the organization explained.
In the rankings, Shrewsbury High School stood out as the third-best program in Massachusetts and secured the 58th position nationally.
