The scholarship was presented to Sidney on May 18th during the SPHS Awards Ceremony. At their monthly meeting on June 7th, the Friends congratulated Sidney for her achievement.
Vanessa Hale, President of the Friends, expressed their happiness in giving the award to Sidney, noting her evident love for the library.
“On behalf of the Friends of the Library, we were overjoyed to present this award to Sidney. It was obvious to us that she was bubbling over with love and enthusiasm for the library. As she looks forward to her college years, we are enriched by the many ways the Shrewsbury Library has been able to help her prosper,” said Hale according to a statement from the organization.
Sidney has been actively involved with the library since childhood, and her experiences, such as creating a Girl Scout section and practicing with the SPHS Speech and Debate Team, have shaped her passion for reading and writing.
Sidney plans to continue her education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst Commonwealth Honors College, focusing on Pre-Legal Studies.
The scholarship, awarded annually to a graduating high school senior from Shrewsbury, aims to support students in purchasing textbooks and other course materials as they pursue a bachelor’s or associate’s degree, according to the organization.
