Shrewsbury government closes public buildings due to winter storm warning

The government of the Town of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, has announced that all public buildings will be closed on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, due to inclement weather, according to a winter storm warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS).

The warning will be in effect from 8 pm on Monday until 8 am on Wednesday and is expected to bring heavy snow, strong winds, and hazardous conditions.

While the public buildings are closed, the town staff will be “available to assist the residents via phone and email.” The Department Directory will provide contact information, and the main line at (508) 841-8585 will also be available, the local government stated.

The winter storm warning predicts snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches (1 foot) and gusts of wind as high as 45 mph. These conditions could make travel very difficult, if not impossible, said the NWS. The morning and evening commute are also expected to be impacted by the hazardous conditions.

The NWS advised residents to stay indoors and avoid traveling unless necessary. If they must travel, they are reminded to keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in their vehicle in case of an emergency.
