“We welcome these new members and wish them continued success in their careers,” Chief James Vuona and the Shrewsbury Fire Department annouced in a public statement.
On Tuesday, June 21, 2022, firefighters Adonis Calderon, Julian Quijano, and Dominic Sassone graduated from the 99th Call/Volunteer Recruit Firefighting Training class of the Massachusetts Fire Academy.
The graduates were recognized by State Fire Marshal Peter Ostroskey with certificates at the Department of Fire Services in a ceremony held in the Town of Stow.
According to the Fire agency, the new firefighters completed 240 hours of training, including classroom instruction, physical fitness training, firefighter skills training, and live firefighting practice, meeting the standards for National Fire Protection Association 1001.
Additionally, graduates now can become certified in Firefighter I and II, and Hazardous Materials First Responder Operations training by the Massachusetts Fire Training Council, which is accredited by the National Board on the Fire Professional Qualifications.
Firefighters Calderon, Quijano, and Sassone were among 28 recruits who graduated from the Stow campus, representing Boxborough, Douglas, Dover, Grafton, Hardwick, and Haverhill, Lunenburg, Mendon, Northbridge, Paxton, Princeton, Royalston, Sherborn, Shrewsbury, Stow, Tisbury, and Weston.
