Hosted on April 12, the day “was set aside as a symbolic day of prayer and almsgiving in support of the peace-loving people of Ukraine,” the school explained in a statement. School students dressed in the national colors of the Slavic country, yellow and blue.
Parishioners of Saint Mary’s church and school families donated over $4,000 that will be shared with the relief effort organized by Christ the King Ukrainian Catholic Church in the neighborhood of Jamaica Plain, in Boston.
The day concluded with the Eighth-Grade class leading a solemn prayer service, that included the living rosary in support of peace, and as “an example of the school’s mission to support their global community.”
On February 24, 2022, Russia, led by President Vladimir Putin, launched a military invasion of Ukraine, a sovereign nation.
