The Town of Shrewsbury, Mass., received a $63,514.87 grant that will improve the safe mobility in some areas.
The grant, part of the Massachusetts “Shared Streets and Spaces” program, will be used for the construction of two new Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant crosswalks on Maple Avenue near to the Town Center and the Town Hall complex (Senior Center, Police Station, and Town Hall) including the municipal playing fields, according to the local government.
The funding will also add a bike rack at the Town Hall and another rack at the Senior Center.
“I am thrilled to see Shrewsbury receive funding through the Shared Streets Program (…) These improvements will allow pedestrians to better adhere to social distancing policies and enhance safety in general,” stated in a press release Hannah Kane, Shrewsbury State Representative.
The State of Massachusetts Shared Streets and Spaces Grant Program provides up to $300,000 for cities and towns to “quickly implement or expand improvements to sidewalks, curbs, streets, on-street parking spaces, and off-street parking lots in support of public health, safe mobility, and renewed commerce in their communities.”
