Fire Dept. secures a $34K federal grant for Coronavirus prevention

The Shrewsbury Fire Department has been awarded an approximately $34,000 grant from the Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding (CESF) Program to further aid in preventing, preparing for, and responding to the Coronavirus.

“These funds will allow us to purchase new equipment and improve the communication of our firefighters as we continue to serve our community through this pandemic,” said Shrewsbury Fire Chief Jim Vuona in a statement.

The funds come from the U.S. Department of Justice that awarded $9.6 million in federal CESF to the Office of Grants and Research of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.

The Fire Department “hopes to use the grant to purchase and install equipment this fall,” according to a press release from the local fire agency.
