Fire Dept., Animal Control rescue a family of swans in Old Mill Pond

A family of six swans stuck in the retention area of Old Mill Pond was rescued on Friday, June 26th, by the Shrewsbury Fire Department and Animal Control with the help of wild bird expert Jessica Zorge.

The swan family “had been in the enclosed area for some time,” detailed Zorge, who explained that despite the parents could get out flying, “there was no way they would leave their young and the babies.”

Zorge donned a water rescue suit provided by the Fire Department and used a rescue net to retrieve the birds, that concluded together “safe and sound.”
