Community advocates celebrate the retirement of Shrewsbury library director Ellen Dolan

Community leaders and advocates gathered at the Shrewsbury public library to celebrate the retirement of director Ellen Dolan.

During the event, held at the library meeting room on March 8th, 2020, attendees recognized Dolan after more than forty years serving as a public librarian in Massachusetts.

Before serving as Director of the Shrewsbury Public Library for 15 years, Dolan served in Marlborough for 18 years, and in West Boylston for 13 years.

“We’ve been so fortunate to have Ellen’s leadership; she leaves us a beloved community library for generations to enjoy,” State Representative Hannah Kane expressed on Twitter.

Priya Rathnam will replace Ellen Dolan as Shrewsbury Public Library director, following a career that started in 2004 as a volunteer, then as Children’s Librarian, Reference Librarian, and for the past seven years as Assistant Library Director.

“Ellen was a powerful voice in town about the need for libraries at a time when that conversation was critical,” School committee member Jason Palish stated on Twitter.
