The Algonquin Regional High School will be hosting the 11th installment of a conference for Women in STEM, presented by the Northboro Junior Woman’s Club. The Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Conference is a free event aimed towards middle school girls and seeks to give them the opportunity to explore careers in STEM fields, with presenters from fields such as Forensic Chemistry, Dentistry, Architecture, Nursing, Veterinary Medicine, Teaching, Engineering, and Medical Professions among others, explaining what the purpose of their occupation is and how they became interested in it.
The conference is very popular, according to the presenters. It tends to fill up to its top capacity —this year is limited to 180 girls—, which means the workshops will necessarily be based on a first come, first served basis. By the time of this writing, the online registration for this year’s conference was filled to its top capacity. The following careers will be featured as workshops in the conference, four of them selected by the organizers, according to attendance:
- Architecture
- Chiropractor
- Conservation Agent
- Ophthalmologist
- Environmental Health & Safety Engineering
- Computer & Electrical Engineer
- Forensic Chemistry
- Research Scientist
